Our laboratory is looking for an enthusiastic new group member with leadership skills to work in the field of bioelectrochemistry.
The research of this postdoctoral position lies at the intersection between electrochemistry and medical sciences. Our group is looking for innovative strategies to tackle medical problems, such as drug resistance, diseases related to mitochondrial dysfunctions and cancer development. The main focus of this position lies in the area of drug resistance to assess potential new and reliable treatment strategies by electrochemistry, but training and guidance of students working in other research areas in our lab is expected.
The successful applicant has a strong background in electrochemistry, which will be applied in our group to monitor the redox chemistry of molecules and their interaction with biological cells.
This position is available as of July 1st 2019 and will be based on a 12-months contract with possibility of extension to 24 months.
- PhD degree obtained 2016 or after in electrochemistry
- Excellent communication skills in English
- A solid publication record in peer-reviewed journals
- Pronounced interest in bioelectrochemistry and medically related scientific problems
- Willingness to supervise graduate as well as undergraduate researchers
- Capability to work as a team-player as well as under own initiative
Desired skills and experience
- Completed undergraduate education in chemistry or biology (or a connected field)
- Experience with Scanning Electrochemical Microscopy (SECM) and/or Photoelectrochemistry
- Experience in cell culture
We are an interdisciplinary group of chemists and biologists at the University of Manitoba, Canada. Our chemistry department has a well-established and equipped research facility, including mass spectrometry, NMR and extensive characterization equipment at the Manitoba Institute for Materials (MIM), and is supported by strong research links with other University of Manitoba departments, including Microbiology, and Biosystems Engineering.
